Job Description:

The Jr. DAS Installation Technician position is the result of growth requiring GWI Telecom to add people.

The work involves the installation of 1/2” and 7/8” RF coaxial cable, multi-strand fiber optic cable, EMT conduit, antennas, splitters as well as RRUs, repeaters and related power equipment. The work typically occurs after hours, starting about 8:00 pm and finishing about 6:00 am. The job sites are large public venues such as malls and office buildings throughout the Ottawa area.

Mandatory requirements:

  • Excellent work ethic and desire to learn and participate in company training programs.
  • Knowledge and experience with hand and power tools.
  • Ability to work on ladders, roofs and man-lifts.
  • Physical strength and being able to work in ceilings and small crawlspaces.
  • Ability to read and interpret cable diagrams and floor plans.
  • Able to work nights and get to job sites around the Ottawa area
  • Must provide your own safety boots and personal tools (power tools, ladders, lifts and test equipment provided).

Preference will be given to candidates with one or more of the following skills and experiences:

  • Experience with RF, fiber optic or other telecommunications cable installation, termination or testing.
  • Technical education and / or experience with RF.
  • Candidates with fall arrest, WHMIS, first aid, lift / boom operation certification(s) or experience.
  • Experience working in harnesses.
  • Experience with EMT conduit installation.

This is a fulltime hourly position. The job is based in Ottawa and the work is completed at customer sites throughout the Ottawa region. The work is primarily during the daytime and indoors however at times there are requirements for evening and night work.

Senior Telecom Equipment Installation Technician

Job Description:

The Sr. Telecom Equipment Installation Technician position is the result of growth requiring GWI Telecom to add people. This position requires field based, hands-on experience installing carrier grade wireless site equipment.

Duties include:

  • Reviewing customer installation work orders and creating an installation bill of materials necessary to complete the work.
  • Completing equipment installations per the customer work orders. These typically including the installation of rack, backup battery system, rectifier and power distribution panel (typically -48Vdc with some +24Vdc), switch, alarm interface, bix board, fiber patch panels, CAT6 patch panels, radio units and all required cabling and grounding.
  • There are requirements for both main equipment rooms and remote equipment rooms. The remote rooms tend to be wall-mount equipment.
  • Full photo record of all aspects of the installation sent to the Crew Lead or Operations Manager.

Desired Skills and Expertise:

Preferred candidates will have experience and knowledge in one or more of the following areas:

  • Telecommunication cable installation – heliax coaxial DAS systems, fiber Optic, CAT6. This will include experience terminating and testing.
  • Telecom equipment installation – Remote radio units (RRU), baseband units (BBU), switches, battery backup systems, rectifiers and all associated site equipment, cabling and standards. Specific experience with Nokia, Huawei and Ericsson is preferred.
  • Reviewing and understanding customer installation work orders
  • An in depth knowledge of cabling requirements for DC systems and equipment including rectifiers, battery backup systems, radios, switches, grounding and bix alarm boards
  • Fiber optic experience is preferred.
  • The ability to work alone or as part of a crew
